Social Media monitoring and engagement
Social media monitoring allows policy makers to receive feedback, gather information and source influencers by gathering data from online communities.
Social media engagement can be used by policy makers to work directly with audiences on social media platforms, allowing them test ideas, consult with users and build relationships.
Social media provides large amounts of real time data, allowing policy makers to gather a wide range of information quickly and cheaply. Social media provides policy makers with an opportunity to interact with users in pre-existing online communities, negating the need to develop a user base that is often associated with government initiated eParticipation platforms. There are also a large number of existing tools and software that are designs to perform the full range of social media analysis functions.
More information on social media monitoring and social media engagement can be found in the Open Policy Making Toolkit.
